Simona Halep Stumbles on Miami Open Return, Sumit Nagal Falls in Qualifiers
Simona Halep lost to Paula Badosa. Sumit Nagal didn't make it to the main draw at the Miami Open 2024.
Former World No.1 Simona Halep disappointedly returned to the court after being eliminated from the Miami Open 2024. On Tuesday, March 19, Halep suffered a defeat with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 3-6 against Spain’s Paula Badosa in the opening round of the women’s singles.
Halep was outstanding in the first set, applying immense pressure on her Spanish opponent. However, Badosa proved equal to the challenge as she staged an incredible comeback.
Halep capitalised on 80 per cent of her break point opportunities, converting 4 out of 5. However, her downfall came from committing 10 double faults. Meanwhile, Badosa faces a challenging task ahead as she is set to compete against 2-time Grand Slam champion Aryna Sabalenka in the second round.
Regarding Halep, she returned to playing the game after her 4-year doping ban was recently reduced to nine months. Despite her loss to Badosa, Halep was delighted to be able to play her favourite game again.

Sumit Nagal fought hard but was defeated
Sumit Nagal goes down fighting as India’s hopes falter. Nagal, who recently broke into the top 100, failed to advance to the main draw after a defeat to Hong Kong’s Chak Lam Coleman Wong in the second and final round of the qualifying stage.
He couldn't maintain his momentum despite a strong start where Nagal dominated the opening set. Ultimately, he lost the match 6-3, 1-6, 5-7. Nagal managed to break his opponent’s serve once, while Wong secured three breaks of serve.
The 26-year-old Nagal was also affected by the 16 aces produced by Wong. In contrast, Nagal managed to produce only 1 ace.
Wong's second serves were tentative, winning only 38 per cent of points from them and resulting in 5 double faults. However, he outplayed his opponent in every other aspect.
