On the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the last photograph taken by famous photographer Bill Biggart has gone viral.
Bill Biggart was the only photojournalist who died on that fateful day.
The journalist was very passionate about his work and was known to capture conflict and social movements.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Bill was alerted by a taxi driver that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. On hearing this, Bill returned to his apartment, grabbed his cameras and walked two miles to reach WTC.
He clicked photographs along the way. When he reached the World Trade Center he captured the towers as they burned. He continued even after the South Tower collapsed. His wife called him and warned him about the South Tower’s collapse.
He told her he was safe with the firemen and would meet her in twenty minutes. Photographer Bolivar Arellano, who was present at the scene, felt that Bill was standing too close to the towers compared to other photographers.
At 10:28 a.m., the North Tower collapsed. Bill clicked his last photo at 10:28:24 a.m. EST. His remains were found four days later under the tower debris.
The 9/11 attacks were one of the deadliest attacks America has ever witnessed. Three thousand people lost their lives when planes crashed into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
