The United States Declares Travel Restriction from Europe for 30 Days

The US President Donald Trump has declared that his government is suspending all travels from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days, amid scare over novel coronavirus or COVID-19. 

The President also said that the ‘strong but necessary’ restrictions would not apply to the United Kingdom, where so far 460 cases of the infection have been confirmed. In his address to the nation, President Trump said, “Europe saw more cases because governments failed to stop travel from China, where the COVID-19 epidemic began.”

The move by the United States comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) this week declared that the coronavirus outbreak is a ‘pandemic’, issuing a grim warning to the responsible nations, that the global spread and severity of the illness is because of the ‘alarming levels of inaction’.

In recent months Europe has been witnessing a mounting number of cases, which includes a number of new countries that are recording their first deaths, thereby prompting the governments to roll out increasingly tough measures to hold the rapid spread of the virus.

Few hours before his address to the nation, President Donald Trump in a series of tweets declared that “US is making a policy to prevent, detect, treat and create a vaccine against coronavirus to save lives in America and the world”.

He also wrote in another post, “America is the Greatest Country in the world. We have the best scientists, doctors, nurses, and health care professionals. They are amazing people who do phenomenal things every day”.

The President also requested the media to view this crisis as a time to show unity and strength and said the country must beat the biggest enemy of the World, the Coronavirus as safely and quickly as possible.

On Wednesday, Washington has declared a state of emergency over coronavirus epidemic. The mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, made this announcement after the US capital recorded 10 confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection.

The United States now has around 1,267 cases of the coronavirus infection, according to the information collected from the state and local health agencies and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

70 cases of which are infected from overseas, like the US citizens evacuated from China or from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan, while 1,197 cases were detected and confirmed on the US soil, which is spread out across 43 states including Washington, DC. The death toll US is now at 38.

According to the latest estimate, the total number of cases across the globe has risen to more than 124,000 with 4,500 deaths, which includes a jump in the fatalities particularly in Iran and Italy.
