Volvo Launches Long Haul Services, Nitin Gadkari Flags off event

Volvo trucks are globally known for their endurance and capabilities. They withstand the highest level of safety standards while constantly maintaining their power. Volvo made a debut in India long back and since then, it is believed to be the most suitable vehicle that can carry a huge load. With more advanced trucks, Indian roads will be dominated by efficient logistical solutions as Volvo came with long-haul road trains that can carry higher volumes of materials.

The operations were started by a logistics company, Delhivery who have a vast network of logistical services. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari flagged off the road train. The road train concept was approved by the Government in 2020 where vehicles 26 meters consisting of two or more cargo vans can be attached to the trailer. This was only aimed at enhancing the cargo shipping capacity of the trailers.

The road train features a Volvo FM 420 4X2 puller and 24 feet trailer which is attached to the tractor. The capacity of the trailer is close to 144 cubic meters which is almost 50 percent higher than the usual trailers. This is a sheer example of how Volvo trucks can be the future of India’s logistics industry.

After strong testing and trials, the road train was declared fit for Indian roads and was approved by the Ministry of Road Transport Authority and ARAI. The Delhivery trucks would be shipping between Nagpur and Bhiwandi and their feasibility will be checked post which more establishment decisions might be taken.

Designed to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of road transport, it aligns perfectly with ongoing transformation in Indian logistics and the government’s Gati Shakti master plan,” claimed Vinod Agarwal, MD and CEO of Commercial Trucks Volvo.

Suraj Sharan founder and Chief People Officer at Delhivery claimed that “From adopting tractor-trailers to LNG and electric trucks, Volvo has been a key enabler in our journey. Road trains are a natural next step, perfectly suited to our high-volume line-haul operations.”

Indian roads need more vehicles like the Volvo which are capable enough to undertake tricky terrains are deliver similar power to that of a plain terrain. Volvo has earned the reputation of being one of the most effective and durable trick manufacturers. Indian roads have various terrains and every passing kilometer changes the environment and surroundings. Thus, the use of Volvo trucks can streamline the logistical industry. The long haul operations should also mitigate the excessive volume of trucks on the roads making way for more eco-friendly methods of logistical transportation.
