A New Research States Human Beings Have a Second Brain and It is Located in the Butt

A second brain has been discovered in the human body and it is located in the butt. Scientists from Australia during their research made this discovery according to the CBS Los Angeles report. This so-called second brain is actually the first brain and may have developed before the development of the central nervous system which consists of the brain and the spinal cord.

What is the role of the Second Brain?

The second brain doesn’t do the thinking like the brain in the heads. But, yes, it may be the reason for your mood changes. Your second brain may be more active in influencing your moods. The main job of the second brain is to communicate with bacterial biome in the intestine and send messages to the central nervous system. There are millions of neurons in the gastrointestinal tract known as ENS or enteric nervous system which controls the movement of muscles in the colon without the help of the CNS. The Ens lines the digestive tract like a mesh and helps in the contraction of the intestinal muscles which in turn helps to push the intestinal waste out of the body.

What is the objective of the research?

The main objective of the research is to understand how the second brain works. This may help to solve problems related to constipation and irritable bowel movement. Additionally, scientists may also find out new ways to treat depression and anxiety as the second brain is related to mood swings.

According to Professor Nick Spencer from Flinders University in Australia, “These findings identify a previously unknown pattern of neuronal activity in the peripheral nervous system. Until this new study, no one had any idea exactly how large populations of neurons in the ENS lead to contraction of the intestines.”

by using high-resolution neuronal imaging on mice, Nick J Spencer, a neurophysiology professor, and his team found that the firing of these neurons down below happens in a rhythmic pattern.

Scientists had already discovered a second brain in mice, they found it only recently in human beings. They believe it may be present in other mammals too. So if you are having a strong gut feeling, now you know where it is coming from. If the scientists are able to learn more about the second brain and how it functions in the human body, it may help to resolve many health issues.

Now we not only have a brainy head but also a smart butt.
