India appeared to be heading for bronze when Vithya Ramraj received the baton for the final leg. Vietnam had the advantage, but the Indian runner refused to let the medal slip away.

The latest result means India has now reached the podium in the event at three successive Asian Games, highlighting the country’s growing strength in mixed relay competition.

For Vithya, the medal adds another highlight to an already impressive international career. She represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics and had previously won medals at the Asian Games and Asian Athletics Championships.

Bahrain Take Gold as India Hold Off Vietnam

Bahrain controlled the race to take gold in 3:12.87, setting a new Asian Games record. India finished second in 3:14.46, while Vietnam came agonisingly close to silver with 3:14.54. Japan finished fourth in 3:15.52.

The result was briefly kept unofficial after the United Arab Emirates lodged a protest, but India’s silver was later confirmed after the UAE was disqualified.
